Good Feeling Surf School
Sagres, Vila do Bispo, Portugal
Good Feeling has been teaching in the Sagres area since 1997 and is certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation. Lessons run all year round in small groups — a maximum of eight students per coach — with the beach chosen each morning to suit the swell and the level of the group. Alongside surfing they run stand-up paddle tours and coasteering along the Vila do Bispo coastline, which makes them a good pick for mixed-ability groups and families who want more than one activity in a week.

Freeride Surf School
Sagres & Praia do Cordoama, Portugal
Freeride has been running in Sagres since 2002, from a surf centre open all year in town and a summer beach hut at Praia do Cordoama on the west coast. As well as beginner group lessons they do intermediate coaching, private guiding for surfers who already know what they are doing, kids lessons and surf-and-stay packages. Having both a town base and a beach base means they can move between the sheltered south coast and the bigger west coast swell depending on the day.

Port Stephens Surf School
One Mile Beach, Port Stephens, Australia
Port Stephens Surf School teaches across three beaches — One Mile Beach, Birubi Beach and Fingal Bay — about 45 minutes north of Newcastle. Their coaches are fully qualified and the school is built around structured, encouraging tuition rather than one-off pushes into the whitewash.
