Surf School Booking Software in Portugal
Built in the Algarve, for a coastline that teaches surfing twelve months a year.
SurfSlot is run from the west Algarve, and Portugal is where it was built and first used. Portuguese surf schools have a business shape you don't find in many other markets: a season that barely stops, a customer base that is mostly international, a huge share of bookings that come through surf houses and camps rather than directly, and a coastline where the right beach changes with every swell. This page covers what that means for your booking system, region by region, and how SurfSlot handles it.
At a glance
- Euro pricing and payments into your own Stripe account
- Deposits that protect you from the no-show weeks ahead
- Lessons booked by slot, beach confirmed closer to the day
- Multi-lesson packages for week-long surf-house guests
- Surf camp rooms, packages and calendar sync
- No subscription, so a quiet February costs €0
A season that never quite ends
Most European surf markets close for winter. Portugal mostly doesn't. The busy months are still July and August, when beginner volume peaks on the sheltered beach breaks, but the shoulder seasons are long and winter brings intermediate and advanced surfers chasing groundswell. For a school, that means two very different calendars in one year: big beginner groups in summer, and small coaching groups, privates and camp weeks for the rest of it.
That shape has two consequences for software. First, the tool has to handle both a twelve-person beginner group and a one-to-one coaching block without workarounds. Second, a flat monthly subscription is a poor fit: you pay the same in a slow January as in August. SurfSlot has no subscription, no setup fee and no lock-in. A SurfSlot booking fee is added at checkout, so we only earn when a customer books. See pricing for the details.
Region by region: what changes for the school
Lisbon coast: Ericeira, Carcavelos, Costa da Caparica. Close to a capital city, so you get Lisbon weekenders and after-work surfers on top of tourists. Weekends tend to be much busier than weekdays, so weekend group capacity and weekday privates are the main levers. Ericeira also has a big surf-house and camp economy. Market notes for Ericeira and Costa da Caparica.
Silver Coast: Peniche, Baleal, Nazaré. The Peniche peninsula almost always has a sheltered side, so schools move groups between Baleal and the south-facing beaches on the morning's wind. Guests come for a week, so packages matter more than single lessons. See Peniche.
Algarve west coast: Sagres and Vila do Bispo. Here you can choose between the west coast and the south coast depending on the swell and wind, often on the day. Schools here also tend to sell other activities, such as coasteering and SUP, next to surf lessons. See Sagres and the Algarve surf school directory.
Surf houses, camps and partner bookings
A large share of Portuguese surf lessons are sold by someone else: the surf house, hostel or camp where the guest is staying. Traditionally those bookings arrive as a name and a date on WhatsApp, get copied into a spreadsheet, and then someone has to chase participant details and waivers the night before.
SurfSlot gives partners a direct booking link, so the booking arrives with participant details and goes straight into the same calendar as your direct customers. Each participant gets their own digital waiver link. If you pay partners commission, affiliate tracking records which bookings came from which partner. If you run accommodation yourself, the surf camp booking software module sells rooms or beds with lessons included and syncs calendars with Airbnb and Booking.com, so the same bed isn't sold twice.
Moving beaches without cancelling bookings
On the Portuguese coast the right beach is often decided at 7am. If your booking system locks a customer to a named beach at checkout, every change in the forecast turns into a refund or a rebooking. SurfSlot works the other way round. Customers book a lesson slot, you set up your beaches with their ideal conditions, and the lesson is flagged ahead of time when conditions at the planned beach look wrong. Moving a lesson notifies everyone booked onto it, so you make the call once instead of sending twelve messages. More on surf condition alerts.
Money: deposits, packages and gift cards
Portuguese surf schools price in euros and sell to card-first international guests who are used to paying online weeks ahead. A deposit at booking protects the instructor's morning against no-shows, and the balance can be collected later. Multi-lesson packages suit the week-long guest, and gift cards sell well to friends and family at home. Payments go into your own Stripe account through Stripe Connect.
One thing SurfSlot doesn't do: it is a booking platform, not certified Portuguese invoicing software. Keep issuing faturas through your certified invoicing program or your contabilista, and use SurfSlot's booking and payment records to reconcile.
Already live in Portugal
SurfSlot is used by surf schools on the west Algarve today. You can see them in our Sagres surf school directory and Vila do Bispo directory, and they book through the same pages you would use. We are a small team based in the Algarve, so onboarding happens with someone who knows the coast. We'll set up your products, beaches and instructors with you, usually in an afternoon.
