Choosing a stretch of coast
Sydney's beaches are convenient and crowded. The far north coast around Byron is warm and busy in equal measure. The Hunter region — Newcastle up through Port Stephens — is the underrated middle: consistent swell, a proper surf culture, and quiet sheltered bays a short drive from the city breaks.
